Lavender Whiskey Smash

We’ve put our own spin on the citrusy classic, Whiskey Smash. Traditionally made with muddled mint, lemon, simple syrup and bourbon – we’ve made it the Sweet Streams way with lavender infused simple syrup.

We love the way lavender brings other herbs to life. In this cocktail, the lavender compliments the citrus elements of lemon and brings out the herbal essence of the mint for a modern update of a classic favorite.

This cocktail, garnished with a sprig of green mint, makes for the perfect cocktail to serve at a St. Patrick’s day party or all spring long at bridal showers, birthday’s, and brunches.

For the Lavender Simple Syrup

-          1 cup sugar

-          1 cup water

-          2 tbsp dried culinary lavender

For the Cocktail

-          2 oz of bourbon or whiskey of choice (we recommend Union Horse Reserve Bourbon)

-          3 mint leaves

-          Juice from half a lemon

-          1 tbsp of lavender simple syrup

-          Garnish: Lemon slice + sprig of mint

For the Lavender Simple Syrup

In a sauce pan over medium heat, add in the water, sugar, and dried culinary lavender. Bring to a boil and reduce heat, stirring occasionally. Once the mixture has infused and begins to thicken – strain through a mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a glass jar, removing the lavender buds.

For the Cocktail

1. In a glass, muddle the mint leaves, simple syrup and juice from half a lemon.

2. Fill glass to the brim with ice and top with 2oz of whiskey.

3. You can either give the mixture a good shake or stir with a cocktail spoon.

4. Garnish with lemon wedge and sprig of mint.
