The weather is starting to change and the leaves are beginning to fall! Autumn is making her grand appearance and we are so excited here at the Sweet Streams Lavender Farm! Cool, crisp weather has us concocting all kinds of warm recipes in the kitchen. From soups to hot cocoa– this is the best season to take it easy and be cozy. This month, we are sharing Food Gal Al’s recipe for Lavender Hot Cocoa using homemade lavender simple syrup made with culinary lavender from the Sweet Streams farm. We love this unique spin on traditional hot cocoa and enjoy sipping it as an evening treat. We recently set up a movie projector to watch movies in our lavender field, and this is the perfect warm drink to snuggle up with and watch a movie as the weather begins to change!
For the lavender simple syrup:
¼ cup dried culinary lavender (find on our product page)
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
Directions: In a saucepan, pour in the water and sugar. Stir over medium-high heat until the mixture begins to simmer and sugar is fully dissolved. Remove the mixture from the heat, and mix in the
lavender buds. Allow the lavender to infuse the syrup for at least 30 minutes. Remove the lavender buds and discard. The lavender simple syrup will last for about 2 weeks in the fridge.
For the lavender hot cocoa:
½ cup chocolate chips
2 tbsps lavender simple syrup
2 cups milk
½ cup half and half
1 tbsp cacao powder, for garnish
Makes about 2 servings.
Directions: In a saucepan over medium heat, stir in milk, half and half, chocolate chips, and simple syrup until warm and completely melted. Once to desired temperature, pour into mugs and garnish with a sprinkle of cacao power and a few lavender buds if you’re feeling extra festive! Enjoy!
We hope you enjoy this recipe and that you find time in your busy day to take it easy and treat yourself!
